Mexican Folk-art

So lately my sisters and I have been very interested in artworks from Mexico. All the intricate designs and bright colors, with cartoon looking faces, like for example, the Mexican bingo cards and the Dia de los Muertos drawing and paintings.

The drawings that have me captured are the candy skulls that are used for the day of dead or Dia de los Muertos. Day of the dead is a day to remember the ones that have passed into the other life, but instead of mourning them, people from Mexico celebrate the life that they had lived. Therefore the skulls that they use for that specific day are usually brightly colored and wearing clothing and smiling.

I think that’s the reason why my sisters and I like Mexican folk art, because it’s so happy even if it’s somewhat of a depressing time. The art is more enjoyable when it has that happier vibe to it.
